The Rocky Mountaineer railway has grown from a small vacation train journey between Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies into a large company employing 400 people and offering more than 40 rail vacations. Founded in 1990 by a group of Vancouver visionaries, Rocky Mountaineer has helped preserve and develop train vacations to the Canadian Rockies so they are available to thousands of travelers every year. In fact, in 2008, Rocky Mountaineer will welcome its millionth visitor. All Rocky Mountaineer rail vacations include at least two days on the Rocky Mountaineer between Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies. Since 2006, Rocky Mountaineer has been offering rail service to the Canadian Rockies that begins in Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and ends in Jasper National Park. Without the Rocky Mountaineer, train travelers would be able to travel by train overnight to Jasper, but they would not be able to take the train to Banff or to Calgary. By contrast, Rocky Mountaineer provides all daylight service, so visitors spend the day on the train and the night in Kamloops or Quesnel, depending on the route, two towns in the British Columbia interior and the midpoint on the journey between Vancouver and the Rockies. The Rocky Mountaineer Railway has its own trains, its own train station in Vancouver and its own motor coaches. It specializes on giving guests a top quality experience they will never forget. |
