Overview

The Rocky Mountaineer train between Vancouver and Jasper is our most versatile short trip because Jasper offers easy access to rivers, lakes, canyons and the Canadian Rockies back country.

If you want to experience the Rockies with limited time, take the Maligne Canyon and Lake tour and/or ride the Jasper Tramway to the top of Whistlers Mountain.

Jasper is 288 km (179 miles) from Banff and 416 km (259 miles) northwest of Calgary International airport. You can tour from Jasper to Banff along the Icefield Parkway, one of the most beautiful highways in the world.You can also catch an airport shuttle from Jasper to Calgary International airport in 6.5 hours.

Although Jasper is more remote than either Banff or Lake Louise, it is a veritable rail hub. From Jasper, you can, take the train to Edmonton, Whistler, Toronto and Price George. And there are two very different trains to Vancouver.

Our Rocky Mountaineer rail package between Vancouver and Jasper includes two days on the famed Rocky Mountaineer train, breakfast and lunch on the train each day, luggage handling, Kamloops transfers and overnight accommodations in Kamloops where you’ll spend the night at the midpoint on your journey.

GoldLeaf Service includes reserved seating in the elevated GoldLeaf dome car, breakfast and lunch in the GoldLeaf dining car and access to the outdoor viewing platform. Complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages are included on the train and dinner and overnight accommodations are included in Kamloops.

Options

To make the most of your Rocky Mountaineer experience and your time in the Canadian Rockies, consider adding one or more of the following to your two day package.

Option 1: Add hotels in Vancouver and Jasper, luggage handling and transfers between the Rocky Mountaineer train station and your Vancouver and Jasper hotels – This essential option turns your basic two day journey into a real vacation. Let us book your hotels, lug your bags and arrange hotel/train station transfers.

Option 2: Shuttle Service between Calgary International Airport and Jasper – This convenient addition lets you spend a night or more in Jasper National Park and still begin or end your journey in Calgary.

Option 3: Car rental in Jasper – You can pick up a car in Jasper with or without a GPS system, explore the Canadian Rockies on your own, then drop the car in Jasper, Banff, Calgary or Vancouver.

Option 4: Return to Vancouver by way of Whistler on the Rocky Mountaineer. This option gives you the chance to experience 4 days on the Rocky Mountaineer on two different routes. It also gives you a chance to spend the night in Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, then take the magnificent three hour train trip from Whistler to Vancouver.

Option 5: Return to Vancouver on the ViaRail Overnight Train. Once you’ve had the experience of the Rocky Mountaineer all daylight two day trip to Jasper National Park, you may want to return to Vancouver by train but not take as much time. The answer is the ViaRail overnight train from Jasper to Vancouver. The train departs Jasper each Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 2:30 PM and arrives in Vancouver the following morning at 9:42 AM. Prices depend on the type of accommodations you choose on the train.

Option 6: Day Trip to Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefield – This all day tour, 466 km (290 mile) round trip, includes Lake Louise en route to the Columbia Icefield. This tour comes with or without the all terrain Ice Explorer ride onto the Athabasca Glacier.

Option 7: 25 minute Helicopter tour of Mt. Robson and the Canadian Rockies – A helicopter tour is the most awe inspiring way to experience the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies. This 25 minute helicopter tour includes the frozen “Valley of 1000 Falls, over Kenney Lake nd the spectacular Kinney Falls, Berg Lake and Berg Glacier. Finally see the North Face of Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.
